To mark the centenary of the great conductor Sir Neville Marriner's birth (April 15, 2024), Decca presents his celebrated Beethoven recordings with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, brought together for the first time for this 10-CD box set. He recorded Beethoven's first two symphonies in September 1970. These were initially released in a 4-LP set entitled "The Rise of the Symphony". A further symphony, No. 4, together with a string orchestra transcription of the "Great Fugue" followed in December 1974. Further Beethoven recordings were added in the 1980s, beginning with the "Eroica" in 1982 and ending with the Ninth in April 1989. Two recordings of the Violin Concerto were also made: with the Academy's long-time director, Iona Brown (herself also a conductor), in January 1980 and again in December of the same year with Gidon Kremer, who integrated two of Schnittke's cadenzas into his performance. This collection is rounded off by a CD with a selection of charming minuets, German dances and contredanses from 1978.Prihlásenie
