Herbie Hancock: River - The Joni Letters (2LP)

The jazz world has always had great heroes. There is currently no greater, more charismatic jazz pianist in the world than Herbie Hancock. He is a living legend with a fascinating jazz history, but above all a contemporary-minded artist who has always broken down barriers, causing controversy among purists from time to time. Like his former bandleader Miles Davis, Hancock is a musician who is as controversial as he is beloved, and who even today still knows how to handle styles as diverse as hard bop and funk. Herbie sets standards, often in collaboration with fellow musicians from the rock and pop segment. Now he presents his Joni Mitchell project: "River: The Joni Letters". Produced by Mitchell's ex-husband Larry Klein, it features two dozen of the best and most beautiful Joni Mitchell songs, played by Herbie and his jazz musicians, including saxophone icon Wayne Shorter. The album contains gems of the singer/songwriter genre, sung by Joni Mitchell herself, but also by illustrious guests and Mitchell fans such as Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, Leonard Cohen and Tina Turner.
