Of course, the experiences from last year's soul rock album "Don't Explain" with Joe Bonamassa have left their mark on Hart's latest solo work "Bang Bang Boom Boom".
Once again, top producer Kevin Shirley produced her album. She has taken her heart in her hands and found the courage to record songs with a wider stylistic range than ever before, all of which were penned by herself. And the Californian, who started playing the piano at the age of four, has dared to compose a piano solo for the first time and record it in the studio.
"Baddest Blues", the first song on Beth Hart's new album, is representative of much of what makes the Californian so special: it begins with a sensitive piano intro before her voice rings out - this voice: sensitive and powerful, expressive, full of lived life. Then the band kicks in, strings shimmer in the background before things calm down again - the singing songsmith demonstrates both her eclectic taste in music and the way she gets under your skin in her own works with this song, which is undoubtedly inspired by Billie Holiday and has a jazzy background.
