With his new album, Riccardo Chailly continues his critically acclaimed series of recordings of Italian composers. Recorded with the Filarmonica della Scala, the conductor devotes himself to the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi.
Born in Bologna on 9 July 1879, Respighi was one of the leading exponents of modern Italian instrumental music. His oeuvre includes early classical works, French Impressionist influences, and a compositional exploration of Italian Baroque and Renaissance music.
Chailly's recording impressively reveals this complexity of Respighi's oeuvre and combines, among other things, rarities of his early work with the probably best-known and most important three compositions of his Roman Trilogy (Fontane di Roma, Pini di Roma and Feste Romane).
Other works include the symphonic poem Fontane di Roma, the orchestral suite Antiche Danze ed Arie per Liuto, and his Aria per Archi.
