Violinist Renaud Capuçon, together with an impressive array of contributors, presents a compendium of works by Richard Strauss, a composer who was at the center of his artistic output long before he came of age. The release begins with rather neglected, recently recorded gems (Violin Concerto, Violin Sonata, Piano Quartet and Daphne Etude) and continues with great concertos from Capuçon's past. String ensemble arrangements of Metamorphoses and the introduction to Cappricco - performed alongside highly decorated colleagues - are followed by a highlight in the interpretation of Ein Heldenleben by Seiji Ozawa and the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester. Renaud himself, who was only in his early twenties at the time, plays the notoriously demanding concertmaster part.
