Bach: Overtures BWV 1066, 1068 (LP)

Bach's overtures, also known as orchestral suites, are a sequence of dance movements, often of a joyful and exuberant character. The two recorded here, No. 1 in C major & No. 3 in D major, are rousing works of baroque splendor, but also contain the famous "Air", a peaceful piece full of serenity. Hardly any other ensemble has influenced our listening habits with regard to "early music" as much as "The English Concert". The founder and long-time conductor, Trevor Pinnock, led the musicians with lively articulation from the harpsichord, shaping the sound from the center of the ensemble.
