Situated somewhere between the subgenres of soul jazz, spiritual jazz, fusion and post-bop, "Cosmic Funk" from 1974, as the title suggests, took a funkier direction, with Lonnie Liston Smith's brother Donald contributing a gentle vocal to John Coltrane's "Naima", among others. A transitional work, but a fascinating one, with an assured production, again by Bob Thiele.
