Ambrose Akinmusire & Mary Halvorson: Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings (LP)

The album "Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings" by trumpeter and composer Ambrose Akinmusire and guitarist and composer Mary Halvorson contains four new compositions by both musicians as well as a joint work. The duo, who have long admired each other's musicianship, have been playing together regularly since 2009. Rehearsals for "Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings" took place in January 2025, shortly before the performance at New York club The Stone; the album was recorded the following day at Sear Sound Studio. "I think it's partly because of our shared aesthetic and the ease of communication. I feel comfortable trying everything out," says Halvorson. Akinmusire agrees: "It's rare to find an improviser where everything is allowed and nothing is forbidden at the same time. It's rare to have the feeling that you don't have to do anything and can do anything. And that's exactly what I love about working with Mary."
