When it came time for Petty to reunite the Heartbreakers in the early '90s, the singer-songwriter had plenty of impetus to keep him going. Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell worked with Full Moon Fever producer Jeff Lynne (ELO) to produce the band's eighth studio album. Under the trio's production direction, the Into The Great Wide Open sessions picked up where Full Moon Fever left off. Combining the Laurel Canyon sound with heartland rock, the album was a critical and commercial success, reaching #13 on the Billboard 200 chart. Most importantly, Into The Great Wide Open allowed Petty and The Heartbreakers to retain their place as one of rock's most enduring and brilliant bands. With its stylized production and the sonic evolution of Full Moon Fever, the album was a great commercial success and became an important part of the Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers catalog.
