88-year-old Charles Lloyd is one of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation. With "Sangam & Friends", the saxophonist pays tribute to the long-standing musical and personal connection with his friend Zakir Hussain. The collaboration is rooted in Lloyd's decades-long fascination with the spiritual and artistic traditions of India. The focus is on previously unreleased recordings from Mumbai from 2009, made with the Sangam Trio (Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, Eric Harland) and renowned Indian classical musicians. Following Zakir Hussain's death in December 2024, the recordings take on additional emotional significance as a testimony to an extraordinary artistic partnership and deep friendship.
