With the selection on the present album, Fleming presents her second recording of the Four Last Songs, which, compared to the rather romantically dissolute recording of 1995, comes across a lot fresher and livelier in its new version. The star soprano also combines the Four Last Songs with excerpts from one of her future Strauss roles - Ariadne. The recording was made as a live recording with the Munich Philharmonic under its chief conductor and proven Strauss expert Christian Thielemann in April 2008.
