Garrick Ohlsson is widely regarded as a master of the miniature. The Etude, which in the early 20th century sought to combine the effect of the Romantic concert etude, the functional of technical practice, and the compositional task, can also be classified as such. Here Ohlsson juxtaposes Debussy's dreaded Etudes with two lesser-known little cycles by Prokofieff and Bartók.
