Sting: Brand New Day (2LP)

"Brand New Day" was an upbeat, anthemic song released in September 1999, just a few months before the beginning of the 21st century. Although the song was written long before that date, the lyrics addressed the existential fears surrounding the year 2000 and provided a counterpoint to views that the apocalypse was imminent. "It's about a new beginning, a new start," Sting emphasized ahead of the release of his sixth album, also titled Brand New Day. "It coincides with this millennium thing, but we have to set the clocks to zero, so it's a great metaphor for wiping the slate clean and starting afresh." 'Brand New Day' cracked the UK Top 20 and was the perfect introduction to the album of the same name, which was released on September 28th. Still a high point in Sting's career, Brand New Day proved to be a critical and commercial success. It sold over three and a half million copies in the US and earned Sting two Grammys in 2000: the first for Best Pop Vocal Album and the second for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, in recognition of the quality of the album's title track.
