Rolling Stones: Undercover (Limited Japanese SHM-CD)

For "Undercover," the Stones recorded ten dewy songs and reacted to the course of the world in the MTV age in 1983. After ten years of Jagger and Richards going it alone as The Glitter Twins, they even brought in an outside producer: Chris Kimsey, the sound engineer for their last three or four albums. Kimsey also worked with Killing Joke, New Model Army, The Chieftains, The Psychedelic Furs, INXS or Duran Duran. The recordings dragged on for almost a year. Again and again Mick Jagger and Keith Richards clashed. Jagger wanted to continue to open up new musical terrain with the Stones. Richards, meanwhile "clean", wanted to return to the rock and blues roots of the Stones. The result was a wild mix of hard rock, reggae, pop, soul and new wave, under thorny, occasionally crass lyrics by Jagger. With "Undercover," the band expanded its stylistic palette for the last time, and its 23rd studio LP became the most controversial Stones album of all time. Rolling Stone praised "Undercover" as a masterpiece: "This record explains why the Stones have stayed on top for so long. 'Undercover' is rock 'n' roll without apology." Reissued in 2023 as a limited edition to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Rolling Stones' founding in London, manufactured in Japan, with paper sleeves and SHM CDs. First release in 5-inch paper sleeve format, plus a card with the sleeve design of the reissue is included. Includes Japanese obi-strap audio: remaster 2009 and Japanese booklet with song lyrics and Japanese translations.
