Nina Simone: You've Got To Learn

Nina Simone's live performances were particularly impressive. She was a guest at the Newport Jazz Festival several times, and her concert recorded on July 2, 1966 has never been released before and will have its world premiere as part of the anniversary celebrations for her 90th birthday. From the very first line of the opener "You've Got To Learn" - an adaptation of Charles Aznavour's "Il Faut Savoir" - Nina Simone shows herself in top form and is heard with interesting versions of some of the most important songs for her, e.g. "I Loves You, Porgy" and "Mississippi Goddam". Sustained applause precedes the evening's touching encore: "Music For Lovers".
