Many fans consider "Sweet Rain" to be Stan Getz's best album: Coller modern jazz with a touch of Latin. Pianist Chick Corea, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Grady Tate were all schooled in '60s concepts of rhythm section freedom, and their always stimulating interplay helps Getz embark on some long, soulful excursions (four of the five tracks are over seven minutes long). He recorded it following his immensely popular bossa nova phase with a new band consisting of pianist Chick Corea, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Grady Tate, which inspired him to new solo flights of fancy and allowed him to play much more freely than in previous years.
