Recorded in 1963 while Dexter Gordon was living in Paris. The quartet was joined by two other American expatriates, Bud Powell (piano) and Kenny Clarke (drums), and French bassist Pierre Michelot. One of the most successful of Blue Note Records' 'blue' period and an album that remains Dexter Gordon's finest work. In the early 1960s, Paris exerted a magical attraction on American jazz musicians. Among the stars who settled there temporarily were tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, pianist Bud Powell and drummer Kenny Clarke. On this album from 1963, which is often described as Dexter's best, the three, together with the great French bassist Pierre Michelot, interpret dreamlike bebop classics and ballads.
