Elvin Jones & Richard Davis: Heavy Sounds (180 g) (LP)

Necessity is the mother of invention! The album "Heavy Sounds" had actually been planned as a trio session with guitarist Larry Coryell. However, when he fell ill at short notice and didn't show up in the studio, drummer Elvin Jones and bassist Richard Davis recorded an almost twelve-minute duo version of "Summertime" on an ad hoc basis. The remaining numbers were recorded a day later with the help of saxophonist Frank Foster and pianist Billy Green, with Elvin Jones himself taking on the guitar part in "Elvin's Guitar Blues".
