Popis
After his last exciting project "Island Songs", an album whose pieces were each created in one week at different locations in Iceland with various local musicians, the Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist Olafur Arnalds is now devoting himself to another project close to his heart.
In recent years, Arnalds has been working on developing and perfecting his groundbreaking technical innovation, two self-playing pianos controlled by specially developed software: Both pianos are controlled by a third, at which Arnalds sits, and complement the music in the studio as well as on stage. This opens up unprecedented musical impressions and a dense and differentiated sound for the listener.
The album "Re:Member", which will be released on Mercury KX, contains a collaboration with the British singer and producer SOHN and, above all, a broad spectrum of unexpected emotional and sonic worlds that take the listener on a magical journey.
The fourth solo studio album re:member by Icelandic BAFTA award-winning composer, musician and producer Ólafur Arnalds was originally released by Mercury KX in August 2018.
The acclaimed album features Ólafur's groundbreaking new software Stratus, which transforms the humble piano into a unique new instrument. Of the album, Ólafur says: "I take the raw influences I have from all these different genres of music and don't filter them. It explores the creative process and how you can manipulate it to break out of the cycle of expectations and habits."
The album uses the Stratus pianos as well as a string quartet, synthesizers, electronics, live drums and a string orchestra, recorded at London's Air Studios. Internationally acclaimed for his haunting musical style, Ólafur combines elements of ambient, classical, electronic, pop and rock in a captivating way. "re: member" builds on the success of his innovative music project "Island Songs" (2016) and the two previous improvised projects "Found Songs" (2009) and "Living Room Music" (2011), in which new works were released daily over a period of seven days.
