Freddie Redd Quintet: Shades Of Redd (180 g) (LP)

Pianist Freddie Redd (1928-2021) from Harlem, New York, became famous in 1959 for the music he wrote for the award-winning off-Broadway play "The Connection". The soundtrack to the play, which is about the lives of heroin-addicted jazz musicians, was released by Blue Note a year later. In the same year, the pianist, who was influenced by Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell, recorded his second album for the label, "Shades Of Redd". On it, he demonstrated his compositional skills even more effectively with a formidable hard bop quintet.
