Ella Fitzgerald practically invented the live album. The reason is simple: her performances were consistently so great that almost every one of her live shows could have been released as an album. Some of her live recordings are therefore not only highlights in the extraordinary artist's catalog, but also great moments in the history of vocal jazz. Now a previously unknown Ella live gem has been added! The four-track tapes of the recording of her concert at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in California on June 30, 1967, recorded with outstanding technical quality by Wally Heider, were only recently discovered in the private collection of Verve Records founder Norman Granz.
