The German synth-pop band Propaganda was founded in Düsseldorf in 1982. in 1983, they signed a contract with ZTT Records and released their first single "Dr. Mabuse" in 1984. This was followed by the debut album "A Secret Wish", from which the two singles "Dr. Mabuse" and "Duel" reached the British Top 30. The album "A Secret Wish", written by Mertens and Dörper, received much praise from critics and reached number 16 in the British album charts.
The album was followed by the single "p: Machinery", which became a hit in Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. The group then spent the rest of the year on their "Outside World" tour through Europe and America. The remix album "Wishful Thinking" was released in November 1985. The album was originally intended for the American club market, but it was also released in Europe.
The box set, compiled and curated by ZTT expert Ian Peel, contains a selection of rare mixes, unreleased tracks and some live recordings in addition to the album. The booklet in the compact, sturdy CD box contains a note from Ian Peel about the history of the band and the influence the album has had over the years.
