Getz Meets Mulligan In Hi-Fi (Acoustic Sounds) (180 g) (LP)

This release contains the complete album Getz Meets Mulligan In Hi-Fi, which was their only quintet album together. Included here are two tunes that complete the session: "Scrapple from the Apple" and "I Didn't Know What Time It Was", which originally appeared on a Various Artists LP. These give the listener the opportunity to hear Stan Getz on baritone saxophone and Gerry Mulligan on tenor saxophone! When in 1957 the rumor spread through the jazz scene that producer Norman Granz would bring the two saxophone giants Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan into the studio for their first session together, jazz fans clicked their tongues in delight. One can only imagine how surprised they were when they heard the first tracks of the album "Getz Meets Mulligan In Hi-Fi". At Mulligan's suggestion, the two stars had spontaneously swapped instruments for the first side of the album. So Getz could be heard on Mulligan's baritone sax, while Mulligan played Getz's tenor.
