The Police's 1978 debut album earned A&M three major hits with 'So Lonely', 'Can't Stand Losing You' and 'Roxanne', which eventually reached the UK Top 10 in 1979. With their trademark fusion of reggae and rock, infused with a definite pop sensibility, their debut still bore traces of their punkier roots spent in the London clubs of the late 70s. A US club tour introduced the band to a new wave audience and, with the airplay of "Roxanne", helped establish the band's fame across America, which peaked in 1983 with The Police's final studio album, "Synchronicity".
