Pharoah Sanders: Elevation (Verve Vault) (180 g) (LP)

With the album "Elevation", saxophonist Pharoah Sanders bid farewell to the Impulse! Records, where he had made a name for himself as one of the leading musicians of spiritual jazz since 1966. With the exception of one studio recording, the album was recorded in September 1973 at concerts in the Ash Grove in Los Angeles and allows Sanders' ecstatic saxophone to shine in combination with a dynamic sextet. Critic Brian P. Lonergan compared the album on All About Jazz to Alice Coltrane's classic "Journey in Satchidananda", which Sanders had been involved in recording three years earlier.
