PJ Harvey: The Hope Six Demolition Project (Reissue Limited) (LP)

After a break of more than five years, PJ Harvey is back with a new album in 2016. "The Hope Six Demolition Project" is the name of the record, which is somewhat out of line compared to her previous studio albums. Instead of recording her songs in the studio as usual, the British alternative singer-songwriter decided to do it in public places, as she did with her previous album "Let England Shake" (2011). Instead of going to a church, this time she went to London's Somerset House art museum, among other places. Visitors to the show were given the opportunity to watch the band record, but had to hand over their cell phones to avoid any of it being posted on the Internet in advance. Meanwhile, the producers sat behind special one-way glass in a specially made recording studio. The rest of the recording for "The Hope Six Demolition Project" took place in Washington, D. C. and other undisclosed locations in Afghanistan and Kosovo. This resulted in a total of eleven songs, including "The Wheel," the first single from the new album - folky indie rock in which Harvey is accompanied by hand claps, horns and a male choir. Incidentally, "The Hope Six Demolition Project" is named after a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development plan to revitalize social housing projects. A cosmopolitan new album: For "The Hope Six Demolition Project," PJ Harvey turned the big wide world into her vocal booth. The result is worth listening to.
