Being the daughter of music legend Ravi Shankar and the half-sister of Norah Jones means that everything you release is subject to scrutiny that may not warrant it, being compared to one (or both) and running the risk of being seen as too poppy or too traditional. With "Love Letters," Anoushka Shankar has created something that bridges the gap between her father's work and that of her half-sister, something that is entirely her own. It's rich in the tradition of Indian music, but has a poppy sheen that combines her love of the old and the new into a sound that feels genuinely exciting.
