Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto is considered the most beautiful of his concertos and, with its majestic character, imposing themes and moods of intense drama and warm lyricism, is probably the most popular of all cello concertos. The nostalgic "Waldesruhe" (Czech: "Klid") and the lively, songful Rondo in G minor were both written before the concerto, while the songlike Romance in F minor contrasts with the virtuoso brilliance of the Mazurek in E minor. Conducted by Walter Susskind and featuring soloists who were already legends in their own lifetime - violinist Ruggiero Ricci and cellist Zara Nelsova - these recordings are celebrated classics in the Dvořák discography. The audiophile "Elite Recordings" have now been carefully remastered and allow the almost 50-year-old recordings to be heard in all their beauty.
