Dvořák: Violin Concerto / Piano Concerto

Joseph Joachim established a connection between Dvořák's violin concerto and that of his friend Brahms, as he gave both composers valuable advice on the works. Dvořák's Czech style was given additional weight by the influence of Brahms: classical rigor meets eloquent Slavic vitality. This resulted in a magnificent masterpiece, which Ruggiero Ricci interprets in this highly acclaimed recording. The piano concerto is characteristic of the younger Dvořák. It was represented for a long time by the soloist Rudolf Firkušný, whose reputation for placing cultivated musicality before extroverted virtuosity suited the work perfectly.
