Rheinberger: Piano Sonatas Nos. 2, 3 and 4 ‘Romantic’

Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger's musical legacy is reflected both in his reputation as a renowned organist and professor and in his exceptional talent and productivity as a composer in all genres. He left behind a considerable number of works for solo piano. From the spirited Second Sonata to his final Fourth Sonata, with its defiant opening and hymn-like romance, Rheinberger's piano sonatas are polished, beautifully balanced and tasteful; they draw on established Classical-Romantic traditions while featuring particularly effective, flowing and memorable melodies. This is part 10 of the "Romantic Piano" series. The first part was released in September 2025 with works by Julius Benedict and was enthusiastically received by MusicWeb International: 'We must be especially grateful to Naxos ... for their commitment to exploring an area of the repertoire that must have been completely unknown to all but a few experts of the period' With numerous world premiere recordings, the series explores and challenges little-known composers and unusual repertoire, including rarely heard music by Friedrich Kiel and piano sonatas by Jozef Wieniawski. Dmytro Semykras was born in Sumy in the Ukraine and graduated from the music conservatory there before continuing his training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Milana Chernyavska. He has won numerous prizes, including at the international Siegfried Weishaupt piano competitions, and is also a scholarship holder of the Yamaha program.
