Rhiannon Giddens: You're The One

Freshly awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music 2023 for her first opera "Omar", Rhiannon Giddens is releasing her third studio album in August 2023. The new album by the Grammy Award-winning singer, composer and instrumentalist is also her first to contain exclusively her own songs. When Rhiannon Giddens released her last album "Freedom Highway" in 2017, the critics literally went wild. And it is to be expected that "You're the One" will be no different. The 12 songs, written over the course of her career to date, are bursting with life-affirming energy and, in terms of sound, create an exciting arc from the folk music that Giddens knows and masters like no other to the poppier sounds that characterize the genre today. The album was produced by Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Alicia Keys, Valerie June, Tank and the Bangas) and recorded at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami. Also in the studio: a band made up of some of Gidden's closest musical creative partners of the last decade, musicians from Splash's own phone book and a horn section - an impressive ten to twelve-piece ensemble that provides the album's rich sound. For the work on "You're the One", Giddens teamed up with some of her closest musical companions of the last ten years, including her partner, Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, as well as multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell, bassist Jason Sypher and Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu.
