Heino Eller was one of the co-founders of professional music culture in Estonia. His legacy is twofold: on the one hand, his diverse instrumental compositions formed an artful musical style that successfully combined modern and national elements; on the other hand, as a professor of music composition, he influenced generations of Estonian composers for over half a century This album with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Olari Elts presents some highlights of Eller's versatile musical output: his 2nd Symphony, Symphonic Legend and Eller's Violin Concerto and Fantasy for Violin, with the famous Latvian violinist Baiba Skride as soloist.
