Michael Jackson: Off the Wall

Michael Jackson set a milestone in the history of pop with Off the Wall, demonstrating at the age of only 20 already his extra class as a musician and creative visionary. With this album, he surpassed all existing sales records of African-American musicians at the time and was able to set unprecedented records in terms of airplay, chart performance and sales figures with his crossover of R&B and pop. For Rolling Stone, it was clear that, thanks to Off the Wall, Michael Jackson had invented "modern pop music as we know it. Above all, Michael Jackson had created a work whose perfect symbiosis of entertainment and great songwriting served as a shining example for his black musician colleagues. Back then, at the end of the 1970s, they were still fighting for due social recognition, and the success of Off The Wall gave them the necessary dose of self-confidence that fueled many great careers. Dozens of today's top stars have been inspired by this album. In the meantime, the album has been on the counter for 26 years, but producer Quincy Jones still considers "Off The Wall" to be Jacko's best work. Even though the longplay "only" reached number 44 in the US charts, it can now boast a total of 32 platinum awards for more than 25 million units sold. The single "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" even received a Grammy.
