Joni Mitchell: Both Sides Now

Joni Mitchell's 17th studio album was released in 2000 and won 2 Grammys the following year. In the liner notes, co-producer Larry Klein describes the album as "a programmatic suite that traces a relationship from initial flirtation through optimistic fulfillment, metamorphosis into disillusionment, ironic despair, and finally resolution in the philosophical overview of acceptance and the likelihood of the cycle repeating itself." It's Mitchell's first album, made largely from material by other writers, and the first on which she performs with an orchestra (the London Symphony) rather than a band. Most of the songs are pop standards from the '30s and '40s that come together to form a story about love's arduous journey.
