Unfortunately, Gustav Holst never again succeeded in matching the immense success of the suite "The Planets". His teaching career and failing health meant that he wrote only a few orchestral works after the war, which the public and critics were quick to dismiss as too demanding and inaccessible. His Choral Symphony Op. 41 on texts by John Keats (1795-1821), first performed in 1925, is certainly one of his most ambitious compositions, although it did not receive appropriate recognition until the 1970s.
