With their spherical-sounding music, partly characterized by melancholic melodies, Sigur Rós have been able to achieve considerable success. Stylistically, they are most likely to be classified as post-rock, shoegaze or ambient. They themselves describe their musical style as Slo-Mo Rock (Slow-Motion Rock) It only takes a short online search to realize that the guys from Sigur Ros are almost prophetically revered by their fans. Many may have come into contact with this band for the first time via the trailer for the computer game 'Dead Space', but that's just by the by. The fifth album with the title 'Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust' is certainly the catchiest work of the slo-mo specialists from Iceland Leaving aside the question of whether this is post-rock, art-alternative or - bad word - world music, the soul of the music opens up to the listener here. While listening to this album, it is certainly almost impossible to do anything on the side. Read a book? Not a chance. Entertaining oneself? Certainly not. Tidy up the room? Not even that. You just sit there and wonder why you are smiling (e.g. during the optimistically driving 'Inne mer syuqur vitteysingur') or why you suddenly have tears in your eyes (during 'Ara batur', which increases from melancholic chamber music to epic orchestral work). The use of the Icelandic language also adds a very intense touch of mysticism, because one always believes to be only very briefly away from understanding a primordial language For those who, after the musical trends of recent years, would like to experience once again how centrally music influences the state of the soul, Sigur Ros are warmly recommended.
