When Extraordinary Machine was released in October 2005 after years of disputes with the label, leaked tracks and re-recordings, it received almost universal acclaim. It was only Fiona Apple's third album in almost 10 years, and proved that she was a perfectionist who wasn't interested in following anyone else's commercial plans. Produced by Jon Brion, along with Mike Elizondo and Brian Kehew, and with support from Questlove, among others, Extraordinary Machine is a brilliant piece of pop songwriting and is considered by many to be Apple's best work to date.
