Popis
It is irritating that Claude Debussy signed his late sonatas, which were planned as a cycle of six very different chamber music works, with "musicien français": Why did the composer, who died 100 years ago, emphasize the French character of his musical life in such a way? On the one hand, the answer lies in the nationalist mood that took hold around the First World War, and not only among France's greatest artists. On the other hand, the attempt to combine complete freedom of form with the greatest possible clarté is a profoundly French project, and not only in musical terms. Claude Debussy wanted to take up sonatas by François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau, i.e. masterpieces of the French Baroque. (Deutschlandfunk Culture) The recording of these late works within harmonia mundi's Debussy series is in the hands of proven soloists and chamber musicians of the label.
