Popis
Two of the most popular masses of the 19th century on one CD The second BR-KLASSIK CD with masses conducted by Mariss Jansons and an outstanding ensemble of soloists
Although there are only 40 years between Franz Schubert's Mass No. 2 and Charles Gounod's Cecilia Mass, these two orchestral masses from the 19th century could hardly be more different. While Schubert wrote his work in the Missa brevis style of the time in just one week at the tender age of 18, Gounod's Cecilia Mass, with its radiant coloration of winds and harp, seems to have sprung from the world of grand opera.
This recording was made in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz in March 2007 and shows Mariss Jansons, chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra, with a program full of heart and soul.
