Suede: Autofiction (LP)

Britpop pioneers Suede return these days with their ninth studio album, "Autofiction." The quintet around singer Brett Anderson took four years for the follow-up to "The Blue Hour". Delusions of grandeur and studio excesses were certainly not the reason for this relatively long album break with Suede. On the contrary, for the work on the songs the band moved into an empty rehearsal studio in London and started working without a big master plan. According to Anderson, an approach that had a direct impact on the resulting music. "'Autofiction' is our punk record. No frills whatsoever. Just the five of us in a room with all the mishaps and mistakes that just happen; the band itself in all its primal chaos." This originality and directness leads to the fact that "Autofiction" has become a very personal album. In the first single of the album called "She Still Leads Me On" Brett Anderson processes the death of his mother. And in general, writing his autobiography seems to have made the 54-year-old even more reflective. Anyway, Suede succeeds with "Autofiction" a more than worthy successor to their celebrated last albums "Night Thoughts" and "The Blue Hour". If need be, you can wait a little longer for it.
