Popis
According to Ozzy Osbourne's recollections, Tony Iommi, who was also responsible for the production of the album, issued the instruction "you have to sound more like Foreigner or Queen!". This made Osbourne, who was already in a bad mood, think about quitting the band.
The punk revolution had just broken out in England, and as a heavy metal act they felt disoriented. The Eagles recorded their album "Hotel California" in a neighboring studio in Miami, but the only thing they had in common was the use of cocaine. The British magazine MOJO aptly summarized the musical result: "Technical Ecstasy is the sound of Sabbath trying to make a grown-up, radio-friendly rock record and, in some parts, it works!". The cover by the graphics agency Hipgnosis, on the other hand, became legendary. When asked about the meaning, Osbourne says: "two robots screwing on an escalator!"
"Technical Ecstasy" marked a turning point for Black Sabbath: a more sophisticated production and experimentation with new sounds, including glam and synth elements. Although it represents a departure from their heavier roots, tracks like "Back Street Kids" and "Dirty Women" still capture the band's powerful energy. It's an album of transition, reflecting both creative growth and inner tensions, and offers a unique insight into Sabbath's evolving style.
