"Pictures At An Exhibition" was released in 1971, after the band had recorded the album live at Newcastle City Hall that same year.
It is a new interpretation of the piano cycle "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky and the encore "Nutrocker" - a performance of Kim Vincent Fowley's rocking version of the Tin Soldiers' March from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker". The album reached number three in the British album charts in 1971.
The 2016 remastered 2-CD edition of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's live recording is once again dedicated to their 1971 performance of Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". Disc 2 contains recordings from "Live At The Lyceum 1970".
