Trentemøller: Memoria (2LP)

As with most Trentemøller releases, "Memoria" is a collection of songs thematically connected by many melodic threads. Its predecessor, 2019's "Obverse," was an exercise in what you could do if the prospect of playing the songs on stage didn't matter. The new album, on the other hand, almost feels like it's asking to be presented live as well. Anders Trentemøller, as he is known by his full name, already revealed how this sounds with the first single "In The Gloaming". "'In The Gloaming' is a song about a difficult, ambiguous relationship. The feeling of being in love with a person who subconsciously drags you down, and how you try to find a way out of those unhealthy patterns," he says. "I wanted the song to have a kind of epic sound that emphasized the big dilemma. Hence the huge drums, the surging guitars and the anthemic synth theme. It was the first time I wrote the lyrics and vocal melody myself, and Lisbet Fritze's haunting vocals bring it all to life so beautifully."
