Popis
Oscar-winning composer Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka releases his new studio album on City Slang! He was honored with an Academy Award (Oscar) and a Bafta for his work on the film score of "All Quiet On The Western Front/Im Westen nichts Neues" 2022. The word "philanthropy" is defined as "the practice of performing charitable acts" or "the love of humanity in general". Perhaps Bertelmann is too modest to describe his music as a charitable or benevolent act, but through the compassion and openness of his new music he undoubtedly demonstrates "philanthropy". Many of the tracks on "Philanthropy" are characterized by an aesthetic that also underlies techno pieces. They usually consist of a driving or repetitive element. These elements act as the backbone of the pieces, they give them structure. The first recordings for "Philanthropy" took place back in 2019. Bertelmann met with Samuli Kosminen, drummer of the band Múm, at the Finnvox studios in Helsinki. 'Two tracks from this collaboration can now be found on the album: "Generosity" and "Altruism". Hauschka opens up a new field with every album release. This was the case on "Ferndorf" (2008), where he revived memories of his childhood in the Siegerland region in loosely linked impressions. Likewise on "Salon des Amateurs" (2011), his homage to the legendary club in his hometown of Düsseldorf. Or on "Silfra" (2012), the album on which he modernized chamber music with violinist Hilary Hahn. "Philanthropy" will be released in October 2023 via City Slang.
