Liebestod - Wagner, Mahler, Strauss

The music of Wagner, Mahler and Strauss is very close to the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra's heart and also a little bit in their blood, as the multiple award-winning recordings of Mahler 4 with Jakub Hrůša and Mahler 9 with Herbert Blomstedt bear impressive witness. With this concept album, they deal with the subject of death, which Jakub Hrůša by no means sees as a moment full of despair and tragedy. Rather, he sees death as an element "that gives meaning to our lives." And it is precisely this idea that the orchestra and its chief conductor convey with their interpretation of four key works by Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss. The result is a kind of dialog between the composers, which build on each other historically and stylistically. A dialog that, according to Hrůša, "enchants our ears and touches our hearts."
