Love between orchestra and conductor with Romeo and Juliet Aziz Shokhakimov, a conductor from Tashkent (Uzbekistan), received the prestigious Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2016. He took up his post as music director in Strasbourg in 2021 at the age of just 32. His latest album is dedicated to Prokofieff: "Shokhakimov's interpretation of this repertoire is truly exceptional", was the verdict of Seen and Heard International in 2022, when the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg performed Prokofieff's Symphony No. 1 ("The Classical") and the two suites from Romeo and Juliet under his direction in his home city. "My constant concern is that this orchestra has a distinctive sound that is easily recognizable," says Shokhakimov, "and that this sound is of the highest quality. Thanks to all the great musicians, this is possible. Our collaboration is very productive and I always feel a strong chemistry with this orchestra, which I met for the first time in 2014. I fell in love immediately."
