Popis
Music of two worlds. The Golden Tower looks out into the world from twelve sides - and lends its title to Christina Pluhar's latest album. On "La Torre del Oro", the celebrated lutenist travels to a special era in world history: the time shortly after the discovery of America, when Spanish ships sailed within sight of the iconic landmark in the port of Seville to bring gold, but also cultural influences from Central and South America, to their homeland. The extent to which the music of modern-day countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina and Chile inspired the Spanish composers of the 16th century becomes fascinatingly clear on this adventure tour. The sound of original instruments such as the vihuela, harpsichord, cornett or the Venezuelan cuatro brings together works by composers of the "Golden Age" with Spanish and South American folklore: two levels that intermingle in an almost exemplary way in the work of Alonso Mudarra (1510-1580). This is why this master - alongside composers such as Lucas Ruiz de Ribayas (1626-ca. 1677) and Santiago de Murcia (1673-1739) - is at the center of the album. Christina Pluhar's focus is also on more recent developments in Central and South American folk music with songs by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. For example, in the form of the Chilean Violeta Parra, who was one of the pioneers of the "nueva canción chilena" in the 1960s, a genre that combines folklore elements with political commitment. An album that guarantees new impressions - and invites you to dance at the same time.
