Chris Isaak: Beyond the Sun

Chris Isaak goes to his roots! On his album, he dedicates himself to the repertoire of the legendary SUN studios from which world stars such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis emerged in the 1950s. Under the aegis of producer Sam Philips, the SUN studios became the "Birthplace of Rock'n'Roll" - and what could be more logical than that Chris Isaak, who grew up with his ears on Rock'n'Roll radio, dedicates himself to those classics that have opened the doors to what we call Rock'n'Roll today and call it pop? Isaak picked out a total of 17 songs (plus two original compositions) for Beyond The Sun, which he recorded as true to the original as possible, but with his typical Chris Isaak charm. And as always Chris Isaak proves a lot of taste and an unerring feeling for the perfect song selection: The range goes from Elvis' first recording My Happiness and his first chart number #1 I Forgot To Remember To Forget to Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire and I Walk The Line to Jimmy Wages' almost forgotten Miss Pearl, Roy Orbisons So Long I'm Gone and Carl Perkins' Dixie Fried. And of course Chris Isaak has also added his own number, the Live It Up, reminiscent of Rick Nelson. Chris Isaak produced the album himself at the venue, the SUN studios in Memphis, and he brought a legend into the studio for a guest performance: Cowboy Jack Clement , a songwriter, musician and producer who has worked with all the big names associated with the SUN studio. Isaak was accompanied by his band of many years, consisting of Rowland Salley (b), Kenney Dale Johnson (dr), Hershel Yatovitz (git), Scott Plunket (p) and Rafael Padilla (perc).
