Chopin, who was not very talkative as a person, reserved the secrets of his inner being - and not confidences or confessions - for the piano alone. It is as if the piano were his double, vibrating in harmony with his sensibility and absorbing his feelings, his impressions, even his hallucinations. In these short pieces, his harmonic sensitivity enables him to create a special treatment of sound to bring out the most delicate shimmers and the most subtle nuances.
