Mike Rutherford: Smallcreep's Day

The solo debut reissued. Mike Rutherford is bassist, guitarist and co-founder of the bands Genesis and Mike & The Mechanics. With both he has written music history many times. Another chapter of his personal musical history is his solo career, which produced two albums in the 1980s: "Smallcreep's Day"(1980) and "Acting Very Strange" (1982). 2022 Music On CD is now reissuing the debut "Smallcreep's Day" on CD. The album was recorded in 1979 at Polar Studios in Stockholm during time off from Genesis, which both Rutherford and keyboardist Tony Banks used to work on their first solo albums. It was finally released on February 15, 1980, with Rutherford supported by Anthony Phillips (keyboards), Noel McCalla (vocals), Simon Phillips (drums) and Morris Pert (drums). The name and the 24-minute title track, which is divided into seven different sections, are based on the 1965 novel "Smallcreep's Day" by Peter Currell Brown, which tells the story of Mr. Smallcreep and his journey of self-discovery through the assembly line of the factory where he worked for forty years. Rutherford had read it about three years before the album sessions and was inspired by the atmosphere. The tracklisting of "Smallcreep's Day" includes five more songs. The songs "Working In Line" and "Time And Time Again" appeared as singles. The album reached number 13 in the UK charts.
